Tips for safe transactions

Aperture.market connects buyers and sellers directly. Here's how to protect yourself.

🔒
Use PayPal Goods & Services
Always pay with PayPal G&S — it provides buyer protection if the item isn't as described. Never use Friends & Family, Zelle, wire transfer, or gift cards with strangers.
📹
Request a video call
Use the optional video call feature to see the gear working in real time before you buy. Ask the seller to show serial numbers, test shots on screen, and any wear areas.
📍
Meet locally in safe places
For local cash deals, meet in a public place like a coffee shop, camera store, or police station parking lot. Bring a friend. Test the gear thoroughly before handing over payment.
Check seller reviews
Before buying, visit the seller's profile to see their star rating, written reviews, and full transaction history. New sellers may have no reviews — use extra caution and the video call option.
📷
Demand real photos
Ask for additional photos if anything is unclear — close-ups of the mount, shutter dial, lens elements, and any scratches or marks. Reputable sellers are happy to share more.
📨
Keep communication on platform
Keep all messages within Aperture.market. This creates a record of the transaction and protects both parties. Be suspicious of sellers who want to move off-platform immediately.
FAQ

Common questions

How much does it cost to sell on Aperture.market?
It costs $0.99 to publish a listing — that's the only fee. There is zero commission on the sale. When your item sells for $2,000, you receive $2,000 from the buyer. We don't take a percentage.
How long does my listing stay active?
Your listing stays active until you mark it as sold or delete it. There are no time limits or renewal fees. A $0.99 listing could be live for a week or a year — same price either way.
What happens when I mark something as sold?
The listing stays visible on the site with a red SOLD banner. This is intentional — buyers can see your track record, and it helps build your seller reputation. You can also relist it as available if a deal falls through.
What payment methods does Aperture.market support?
Aperture.market doesn't process payments between buyers and sellers — you pay the $0.99 listing fee to us via Stripe, then the transaction between you and the buyer happens directly. We strongly recommend PayPal Goods & Services for buyer protection.
Can I list lenses, accessories, and non-camera gear?
Yes. You can list cameras, lenses, flashes, tripods, bags, filters, memory cards, drones, action cameras, cinema cameras, and accessories from any of the 29 supported brands. If it's photography-related gear, it belongs here.
How does the ZIP code search work?
When you create a listing, enter your ZIP code. When buyers search, they can enter their ZIP and choose a radius — 10, 50, 100, or 250 miles. Only listings with a matching ZIP within that range will appear. This is great for local pickup deals.
What if a seller misrepresents their item?
If you paid with PayPal Goods & Services, open a dispute directly with PayPal — they provide strong buyer protection. Leave an honest review on the seller's profile to warn other buyers. You can also contact us through the contact page and we will investigate and may remove the seller from the platform.
Is Aperture.market only for US sellers?
Currently the platform is optimized for US-based sellers, particularly the ZIP code search which uses US ZIP codes. International sellers can list gear but the local search feature won't apply to them. International expansion is on our roadmap.
